The Importance of Hydration in Youth Sports
Children are more susceptible to heat exhaustion and dehydration than adults because their bodies don't regulate temperature as efficiently. Continuous hydration before, during, and after sports is absolutely critical.
Water is usually sufficient for activities under an hour. However, for intense, prolonged games, sports drinks can help replenish lost electrolytes. Teach your child to drink water proactively, not just when they feel thirsty, as thirst is a late indicator of dehydration.
